14 days in November

What a suspension actually looks like.

  1. Nov 3

Your surety files a cancellation. Or your three-year prepaid bond simply runs out.

"Multi-year prepaid bonds expire without notice."

  2. Nov 15

The effective date. The CSLB suspends the license that day.

"Automatic license suspension on the cancellation effective date."

  3. Nov 18

You take on a new contract.

  4. Feb 2

A dispute with the customer. Your license history is a public register. The CSLB's own auditors pull it as well, city filings included.

  5. The bill

They can recover everything you were paid. Not the balance. Everything.

"Work performed while expired is unlicensed work, exposing the contractor to fee disgorgement under B&P 7031 and a misdemeanor."
